Cedar
ducks are made from old Rocky Mountain Juniper
(Cedar) fence post. Many of these post are over
100 year old. Early homesteaders from Mexico to
Canada used cedar post for fences because of their
rot resistance and availability in the dryer
climate of the west. The artist uses posts from
Colorado and Montana. The artist who has selected
each piece of wood based on its grain and exterior
character handcrafts each creation. Weathered
portions are left natural while finished areas are
coated with a clear polymer. The bottom is not
coated to allow the pleasant aroma of the wood to
be enjoyed.
